Ordinance Restricting Ice Retarder Use
Posted on Dec 13, 2020
Wishes to KHA residents for a safe winter season. To protect the health and safety of residents enjoying over 40 township lakes in winter months, Orion Township has declared, in Ordinance No. 160, that it is a public nuisance to operate an ice retarder device or "bubbler" in such a manner as to create larger-than-necessary areas of open water and thin ice. In an effort to protect permanent docks and other lakefront structures from ice damage, a riparian landowner might choose to use an ice retarder device, or bubbler, that keeps ice from forming around the structure. Ordinance #160, declares that it is a public nuisance to operate such a "bubbling system" that creates an area of open water on a public lake that exceeds six (6) feet beyond any structure being protected and this shall constitute a dangerous artificially created condition. Costs and penalties for enforcement are spelled out in Ordinance #160.
Lake Friendly Pet Care
Posted on Mar 25, 2019
Animal waste when left on the ground is not only a terrible surprise for your shoe, it is also a source of bacteria and parasites that are harmful to human health. When it rains, stormwater runoff from lawns and streets carries this waste - full of harmful bacteria - into storm drains and into the lake. Dog feces is as high as 3rd on the list of contributors to contaminated water. Cleaning up after your pet is one guarantee in the life of every pet owner. Contrary to popular belief, dog feces is not fertilizer and does not provide any benefit to the soil. This article from The Clinton River Watershed Council provides more information about keeping pet waste out of our lake. If you are too busy to clean up after your dog or have physical limitations, Scoopy Doo Pet Waste Removal Services in Oxford (ph: 248-969-9400) may be able to help you.
