CAUTION! High Bacteria Levels at KHA Beach
Posted on Jul 18th, 2019
High Bacteria Levels were found in the water at the KHA Beach on July 9, 2019 and July 16, 2019.
CONTACT WITH THE WATER MAY CAUSE ILLNESS.

We are working with Oakland County Health Division on further water analysis.
Over the past many years, the water at the beach has been consistently very clean. For some reason, unprecedented contamination has now occurred. It is only speculation, but it may be that run-off from the heavy rains has carried bacteria-laden material into the lake. It may be that construction along Baldwin Road has some influence. If anyone has any information about unusual potential sources of fecal-matter contamination (manure fertilizers, backed-up sewer, etc.) please let us know at the contact on the KHA website.

Lake Friendly Pet Care
Posted on Mar 25th, 2019
Animal waste when left on the ground is not only a terrible surprise for your shoe, it is also a source of bacteria and parasites that are harmful to human health. When it rains, stormwater runoff from lawns and streets carries this waste - full of harmful bacteria - into stormdrains and into the lake. Dog feces is as high as 3rd on the list of contributors to contaminated water. Cleaning up after your pet is one guarantee in the life of every pet owner. Contrary to popular belief, dog feces is not fertilizer and does not provide any benefit to the soil. The linked article from The Clinton River Watershed Council provides more information about keeping pet waste out of our lake. If you are too busy to clean up after your dog or have physical limitations, Scoopy Doo Pet Waste Removal Services in Oxford (ph: 248-969-9400) may be able to help you.

Voorheis Vixens
Posted on Jun 6th, 2017
We have established a kayaking club which encompasses everyone who lives in Keatington on both sides of the lake.  The name of the club is Voorheis Vixens.
We meet every Monday (weather permitting) at 6:30 pm in the vicinity of the 2nd island where the mouth of both halves narrows.  We ask that kayakers be safe and stay close to shore as we meet because boats are still actively on the water until 7:30 pm.
Exciting times on Lake Voorheis -  Look for us out on the lake with our logo on orange shirts.

One of our long time neighbors Pat Norton has a new toy and wanted to share some pictures taken with his drone from the beach. Check out how clear the water looks. Thanks to Pat for sharing!
Orion Township Ordinance #20 (NO WAKE)

This note is to remind all boaters of Orion Township Ordinance # 20. This is regarding boating on our lake.
No boat shall be on plane or be towing skiers etc. from the hours of 7:30 PM till 11AM Eastern Daylight time. The actual Ordinance may be found on the Marina Page or on Orion Township website. There was alot of complaints last Summer of people "stretching the rules" to accommodate themselves. Please be considerate to others that enjoy some quiet time on the lake.
Fireworks Facts!
Posted on Apr 5th, 2014
Legal Fireworks can be purchased at almost anytime now in Michigan. There are regulations as to when the can be discharged. Take a look at the attached  to be aware of the laws. It's easier to obey the laws, when you know what they are. Or, you may be suprised with a hefty fine!

Posted on Aug 2nd, 2013
I have recently been seeing and hearing Sandhill Cranes around the area. I found them at the football field this morning and was able to get close enough to get a couple of pictures.

Boats Not Allowed in Swim Area
Posted on Jul 15th, 2013
We have had several reports of boats motoring into the swim area to pick up "friends" from the swim platform. This is against the law and a very dangerous situation. Parents, if your children or young adults are allowed to drive your boats, PLEASE remind them to stay out of the swim area. We will be monitoring the situation and reporting violators to proper the authorities. Two children lost there lives in a boating accident last week on Sylvan Lake. We don't want any accidents at the KHA beach.
